    APPENDIX VII

    Admission regulations [3 of 6]

    14. The desire for liberty, justice, freedom of movement, freedom from bad feelings in the face of censure, criticism, ridicule, slander, false accusation, and freedom from sorrow, sadness and fear, etc. are at the heart of every heart. In the fourth stage of the Jain Yoga aspirant, the rise from the 8th to the 12th guṇasthāna, these desires are not only realized but surpassed. In order to gain these qualities, defeating the 6 inner enemies is necessary, which only everyone can overcome for themselves.

The six internal enemies antaraṅgāri (inner enemies) are: C – the four kaṣāyas: krodha (anger), māna (conceit), māyā (deceit), lobha (greed) – dveṣa (hate), each with its four subtypes.

Rāga (infatuation, desire, lust, wanton) and dveṣa (hate) are actually only two subtypes of attachment:

Attachment (rāga) is also classified as positive attachment and includes infatuation, desire, lust, wanton, etc.

    and

hate (dveṣa) is classified as negative attachment and includes jealousy, envy, revenge, etc.

The first stage of the Jain Yoga aspirant needs a little restraint of rāga (lust, infatuation, desire) to conquer the first stage of the intensity of the four passions. This stage corresponds to the 4th guṇasthāna.

The second stage of the Jain Yoga aspirant requires greater restraint of rāga to conquer the second stage of intensity of the four passions. This stage corresponds to the 5th and 6th guṇasthāna.

The third stage of the Jain Yoga aspirant requires, along with even greater restraint of rāga, to subdue the third stage of intensity of the four passions, and also the avoidance of the pramāda-s (slacks), as well as aversion, sadness, and hope. This corresponds to the 7th guṇasthāna.

The fourth stage of the Jain Yoga aspirant of the Kevalajñānavinayatapasya-saṅgha corresponds to taking the kṣapakaṣreṇi path from the 8th to the 12th guṇasthāna. In the 12th guṇasthāna the aspirant has destroyed all 4 passions of the lowest intensity sañjvalakaṣāya and attained the 4th stage of right knowledge manaḥparyāya jñāna (mind-reading knowledge) with the addition of at least one supernatural power.

The fifth stage of the Jain Yoga aspirant corresponds to the 13th guṇasthāna (sayoga-kevalī), involves omniscience and lasts from a minimum of 1 antarmuhūrta (less than 48 minutes) to a maximum of 1 koṭipūrva of years and is always associated with immortality.
