Site Rules

The site rules are in accordance with the principles of Jainism and are subject to change from time to time. Please abide by our site-specific rules to avoid getting banned by the administrator.

1. Username squatting policy

Username squatting is prohibited by the site rules.

Please note that if an account has had no updates, no profile image, and there is no intent to mislead, it typically means there's no name-squatting or impersonation. Note that we will not release squatted usernames except in cases of trademark infringement.

Attempts to sell, buy or solicit other forms of payment in exchange for usernames are also violations and may result in permanent account suspension.
Impersonation policy

Impersonation is a violation of the Site Rules. User accounts that pose as another person, brand, or organization in a confusing or deceptive manner may be permanently suspended.

1.1 What is not an impersonation policy violation?

Accounts with similar usernames or that are similar in appearance (e.g., the same profile image) are not automatically in violation of the impersonation policy. In order to violate our impersonation policy, the account must portray another entity in a misleading or deceptive manner.

An account will not be removed if:

  • The user shares your name but has no other commonalities, or
  • The profile clearly states it is not affiliated with or connected to any similarly-named individuals or brands.

Users are allowed to create parody, newsfeed, commentary, or fan accounts.

1.2 When does review accounts under this policy?

We review impersonation claims upon receipt of a valid impersonation report. We do not actively monitor users’ content.

1.3 How do I file an impersonation report?

If you are the impersonated party or an authorized representative, you can submit your details to info@om-arham.org

Please note, submitting a report with incomplete information will delay the processing of your report.

1.4 Can I request a specific username?

We generally do not accept individual requests for inactive or suspended usernames.
Violent threats and glorification of violence

You may not make specific threats of violence or wish for the serious physical harm, death, or disease of an individual or group of people.

2.0 Rationale

We want our website to be a place where people feel safe to freely express themselves. Thus, we will not tolerate behavior that encourages or incites violence against a specific person or group of people. We also take action against content that glorifies acts of violence in a manner that may inspire others to replicate those violent acts and cause real offline danger, or where people were targeted because of their potential membership in a protected category.
When this applies

Posts that violate this policy contain violent threats or glorify violence.

2.1 Violent threats

We consider violent threats to be explicit statements of one’s intent to kill or inflict serious physical harm against another person. This includes, but is not limited to, threatening to murder someone, sexually assault someone, break someone’s bones, and/or commit any other violent act that may result in someone’s death or serious injury.

Please note that wishing or hoping that someone experiences serious physical harm, making vague threats, or threatening less serious forms of physical harm would not fall under this specific policy. Instead, we may review and take action against that content under our abusive behavior and hateful conduct policies.

2.2 Glorifying violence

We consider glorification of violence to be behavior that condones or celebrates violence (and/or its perpetrators) in a manner that may promote imitation of the act. We also prohibit the glorification of violence where protected categories have been the primary target or victim.

Some examples of this include, but are not limited to, the glorification of:

  • mass murders
  • terrorist attacks
  • rapes and sexual assault

However, we will take enforcement action if any of the above glorifies violence where protected categories have been the primary targets or victims.

2.3 Consequences

2.3.1 Violent threats

Due to the serious potential for offline harm, we have a zero-tolerance policy towards violent threats. Accounts found to be posting violent threats will be permanently suspended.

2.3.2 Glorifying violence

The consequences of violating our glorification of violence policy depend on the severity of the violation and the account’s previous record of violations.

3.0 Abusive profile information

You may not use your username, display name, or profile bio to engage in abusive behavior, such as targeted harassment or expressing hate towards a person, group, or protected category.

3.1 Rationale

While we want people to feel free to express their individuality in their profile names and descriptions, we have found that accounts with abusive profile information usually indicate abusive intent and strongly correlate with abusive behavior. The high visibility of profile names and descriptions also means that people might involuntarily find themselves exposed to threatening or abusive content when visiting a profile page.
When this applies

We will review and take enforcement action against accounts that target an individual, group of people, or a protected category with any of the following behavior in their profile information, i.e., usernames, display names, or profile bios:

  • Violent threats
  • Abusive slurs, epithets, racist, or sexist tropes
  • Abusive content that reduces someone to less than human
  • Content that incites fear

We will not consider insults under this policy. However, we will still take action against these accounts if we receive reports about Direct Messages that are in violation of our other policies. As always, context matters when we evaluate for abusive behavior and in determining appropriate enforcement actions.

3.2 Consequences

If an account’s profile information includes any of the abusive behaviors listed above, we will permanently suspend the account on first violation.

If an account uses a hateful symbol(in Jainism, a swastika is not considered as a hateful symbol and is no way related to any political ideology. However, the image should be in accordance with Jainism's principles ) in its profile information, the account-holder will be required to remove the symbol before they can use their account again. Repeated violations will lead to permanent suspension.

4.0 Violent extremist groups

You may not make specific threats of violence or wish for the serious physical harm, death, or disease of an individual or group of people. This includes, but is not limited to, threatening or promoting terrorism. You also may not affiliate with organizations that – whether by their own statements or activity both on and off the platform – use or promote violence against civilians to further their causes.

4.1 Rationale

We will not tolerate groups or individuals associated with them who engage in and promote violence against civilians both on and off the platform. Accounts affiliated with groups in which violence is a component of advancing their cause risk having a chilling effect on opponents and bystanders. The violence that such groups promote could also have dangerous consequences offline, jeopardizing their targets’ physical safety.
When this applies

We prohibit the use of our services by violent extremist groups – i.e., identified groups subscribing to the use of violence as a means to advance their cause, whether political, religious, or social.

We consider violent extremist groups to be those which meet all of the below criteria:

  • identify through their stated purpose, publications, or actions, as an extremist group
  • have engaged in, or currently engage in, violence (and/or the promotion of violence) as a means to further their cause
  • target civilians in their acts (and/or promotion) of violence

Behavior we look for when determining whether an account is affiliated with a violent extremist group includes:

  •  stating or suggesting that an account represents or is part of a violent extremist group
  •  providing or distributing services (e.g., financial, media/propaganda) in furtherance of progressing a violent extremist group’s stated goals
  •  engaging in or promoting acts for the violent extremist group
  •  recruiting for the violent extremist group

4.2 Consequences

We have a zero-tolerance policy for accounts belonging to or affiliated with violent extremist groups and will permanently suspend them.

5.0 Glorifying self-harm and suicide

You may not promote or encourage suicide or self-harm. When we receive reports that a person is threatening suicide(please note that santhara or sallekhana is not considered as suicide in Jainism and related posts will be treated very carefully in accordance with the country/state laws and as per the principles of Jainism)  or self-harm, we may take a number of steps to assist them, such as reaching out to that person and providing resources such as contact information for our mental health partners.

5.1 Rationale

While we want people to feel safe sharing their thoughts and feelings, we draw the line at encouraging or promoting self-harm and suicidal behavior, which can pose safety risks for others. With that in mind, we apply a two-pronged approach to the issue: supporting people who are undergoing experiences with self-harm or suicidal thoughts but prohibiting the promotion or encouragement of self-harming behaviors.
When this applies

Some examples of encouraging or promoting self-harm include (but may not be limited to) encouraging or glorifying:

  •  Acts of injuring oneself, such as cutting
  •  Eating disorders such as bulimia, anorexia, and serious illnesses that cause severe disturbances to a person's eating behaviors.
  •  Sharing strategies for suicide and participating in group suicides or suicide games

Some examples of behavior that are not considered glorifying or encouraging:

  •  Discussions or organizations focused on research, advocacy, and education of self-harm or suicide prevention
  •  Sharing coping mechanisms and resources for thoughts of self-harm and suicide

5.2 Consequences

Our approach towards suicide and self-harm depends on the type of content, whether or not the account is encouraging or promoting self-harm, and the account’s previous record of violations.

The first time someone violates this policy, they will be required to remove the violating content and be temporarily locked out of their account before they can post to the forums again.

People who repeatedly violate this policy and/or accounts dedicated to promoting or encouraging self-harm and suicide may be suspended.

6.0 Abusive behavior

You may not engage in the targeted harassment of someone, or incite other people to do so. We consider abusive behavior an attempt to harass, intimidate, or silence someone else’s voice.

6.1 Rationale

On, you should feel safe expressing your unique point of view. We believe in freedom of expression and open dialogue, but that means little as an underlying philosophy if voices are silenced because people are afraid to speak up.

In order to facilitate healthy dialogue on the platform, and empower individuals to express diverse opinions and beliefs, we prohibit behavior that harasses or intimidates, or is otherwise intended to shame or degrade others. In addition to posing risks to people’s safety, abusive behavior may also lead to physical and emotional hardship for those affected.
When this applies

Some posts may seem to be abusive when viewed in isolation, but may not be when viewed in the context of a larger conversation. When we review this type of content, it may not be clear whether it is intended to harass an individual, or if it is part of a consensual conversation. To help our teams understand the context of a conversation, we may need to hear directly from the person being targeted, to ensure that we have the information needed prior to taking any enforcement action.

We will review and take action against reports of accounts targeting an individual or group of people with any of the following behavior within Posts or Direct Messages.

Wishing or hoping serious harm on a person or group of people

We do not tolerate content that wishes, hopes or expresses a desire for death, serious bodily harm or fatal disease against an individual or group of people. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Hoping that someone dies as a result of a serious disease e.g., “I hope you get cancer and die.”
  • Wishing for someone to fall victim to a serious accident e.g., “I wish that you would get run over by a car next time you run your mouth.”
  • Saying that a group of individuals deserves serious physical injury e.g., “If this group of protesters don’t shut up, they deserve to be shot.”

7.0 Unwanted sexual advances

We prohibit unwanted sexual advances and content that sexually objectifies an individual without their consent. This includes, but is not limited to:

  •  sending someone unsolicited and/or unwanted adult media, including images, videos, and GIFs;
  •  unwanted sexual discussion of someone’s body;
  •  solicitation of sexual acts; and
  •  any other content that otherwise sexualizes an individual without their consent.

Using aggressive insults with the purpose of harassing or intimidating others

We take action against excessively aggressive insults that target an individual, including content that contains slurs or similar language. Please also note that while some individuals may find certain terms to be offensive, we will not action against every instance where insulting terms are used.

Encouraging or calling for others to harass an individual or group of people

We prohibit behavior that encourages others to harass or target specific individuals or groups with abusive behavior. This includes, but is not limited to; calls to target people with abuse or harassment online and behavior that urges offline action such as physical harassment.

7.1 Consequences

When determining the penalty for violating this policy, we consider a number of factors including, but not limited to, the severity of the violation and an individual’s previous record of rule violations.

For example, we may ask someone to remove the violating content. Subsequent violations will lead to permanent suspension. If an account is engaging primarily in abusive behavior, we may permanently suspend the account upon initial review.

8.0 Sharing of accounts

You may not share your accounts with other people. Doing so will provoke permanent suspension of the account.

9.0 Malicious Activity

Any type of malicious activity that includes network attacks of any kind will lead to permanent ban of the IP address and the user account.

10. Promoting own services/products on the website

Under no circumstances shall we allow user accounts to use forums or groups to advertise their services or products. Anyone found using the website to create groups or pages that not in accordance with Jainism will have their accounts permanently deleted.

We are constantly checking for spam/fake user accounts created on the website. Such accounts will be deleted immediately from the website.

10.1 What is considered as a spam account?

The purpose of the account created solely for advertising sales and services of products/goods and those pages and blogs not related to Jainism will be considered as spam or fake accounts and shall be deleted.
