Damag said:
“Brother, I have heard this story. But whoever serves a master does not do so merely to fill their stomach; for one can satisfy one's hunger anywhere, but rather serves to do good to their friends and harm to their enemies. A low-minded person constantly clings to even the smallest thing, like a dog who has found a dry bone and rejoices in its base nature, although it derives no refreshment from it. But an ambitious person who desires something better is only content out of necessity; otherwise, they rightly strive for ever greater wealth, like the lion who has caught a hare and sees a donkey, whereupon they let the hare go, hoping for the donkey. The dog wags its tail long in begging, but the enraged elephant knows its strength and power; and even if food is offered to it with flattery, it spills much of it before it eats. It is said that he who is gloriously and with Many who live, even if their life is short, are counted among the long-lived; but those who live miserably and alone, even if their life is long, are not considered lives at all, unless they are very bad lives. And again, it is said of the bull, the sheep, and humans that they are only concerned with sustenance.
