It is further said that among these three things, one is better than another, one person better than another, one elephant better than another elephant, and one dog better than another dog. For it is not through the large number of helpers, but through their skill that a person can accomplish a task; as when someone carries many stones that no one buys and grows weary from their heavy weight, while another carries a single hyacinth and does not grow weary, yet receives a high price for it; or as when a wall is to be built by a large number of builders, but not one of them is able to select what is necessary for the construction of the wall. It is also said that it is not fitting for a ruler to despise someone because of their low rank; for the lowly can become great and honoured through their skill, like the sinews taken from four-legged animals and used to make a bow, which the king honours by carrying it with his own arms.
And Damnag wished to show that the lion had received him so kindly not because of his paternal lineage, but because of his personal merit, and said:
